Gaming worth more than video and music combined

The video games sector now accounts for over fifty percent of the UK’s whole entertainment market, according to another report.

This makes it more rewarding than music and video combined.

The games market has increased, regardless of how the console and PC games market shrank marginally in 2018, and digital also had a small 12.5% growth.

Chief executive of ERA, Kim Bayley said:”The games industry has been incredibly helpful in benefiting from the potential of digital technologies to provide new and compelling forms of entertainment. Despite being the youngest of the three industries, it is now undoubtedly the biggest.”
Three games – Fifa 19, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 – each sold over one million physiological units in the united kingdom throughout 2018.

The figures don’t take account of the achievement of cellular and completely free games like Fortnite, which has more than 200 million players around the world.

Mass market amusement

Piers Harding-Rolls, head of matches study at IHS Markit said:”Throughout the last five years that the games industry has benefited hugely from the mainstream adoption of games apps on smart devices, and the transition from physical distribution to electronic distribution in established parts of the marketplace like console gaming.

“Games have become actually mass market and a very important part of the entertainment sector.”

He added:”Growth has been fuelled by the dominance of free in-game and content monetisation, which expands the adoption of matches but also removes the cap on paying for all those gamers that are really engaged in the experiences.

“The flexibility of interactive articles means it’s unique since it can be monetised this manner, which can be a benefit over other forms of amusement.”
