Little Nightmares Game Guide

Little Nightmares is a platformer from Tarsier Studios. We play the part of Six, clothed in a yellow raincoat, who has been kidnapped by monsters and is held in a complex called The Maw. This guide contains advice and control scheme, which will allow you to hit the ground running with this game and immerse in its world. Our solution will allow you to solve every puzzle in the game and to get the heroine through the whole adventure.

In the Little Nightmares guide, you’ll find:

Some initial advice

  1. The game is very often set in dark locations that can be intelligible. Remember that Six can use her lighter as a source of light. The game encourages playing in a dark room to be able to fully immerse in the game.
  2. Six dies if she falls from considerable height. Long jumps are rarely a good way out.
  3. Checkpoints are rather abundant, so you don’t have to worry about repeating big chunks of the game.
  4. A great many interactive items in the given location are utterly useless and are there only for the sake of creating atmosphere.
  5. Remember that Six doesn’t hold onto ledges and edges. You need to press the right button in the right moment in order for her not to fall into the abyss.
  6. It’s easy to forget that she can also make pretty darn cool slides which will help you a lot in escaping monsters on a couple of occasions.
  7. Be careful near precipices and in narrow passages, because the game’s depth of field can be deceiving – especially if you’re playing on a game pad: one bad jerk of the stick and you’re done.

In Little Nightmares, the player assumes the role of Six — a girl in a yellow water-repellent coat who was kidnapped by monsters and imprisoned in an underwater complex called The Maw. Her task is to escape this ghastly place. Achieving this goal is not simple, though, because the heroine has to face numerous dangers conjured by childhood nightmares.

Little Nightmares is evocative of such productions as the cult Limbo. The action is presented from a side view, while the gameplay is based on hopping from platform to platform, and solving environmental puzzles that require agility and logical thinking. In this way, we can unlock the path to the next room and thus move towards the exit from The Maw.

Little Nightmares is characterized by high-quality three-dimensional graphics. From among other platformer games, the title is distinguished by its grim style and toned down colors.

When you’ll be having control over the protagonist, go right. Soon, you’ll reach a box, in which lies a sack. Go pass this obstacle and proceed further, until you reach the lantern. Light it with your lighter and approach the hatch (open it using the “grab” button”). Then crouch and get into the tunnel.

Keep going right until you reach another location. Take the stairs and go up until you reach a gap underneath the door. Crawl through and you will reach a room. Jump onto the suitcase and the bed, and then jump again and grab the edge of the shaft in the wall.

Get to the other side and approach the chair – move it so you’re able to leap to the door handle. Enter the next room, approach the fridge and open it. Climb to the top using the fridge shelves as a ladder. Go right.

When you reach the edge, a worm will drop right behind you. It’s mortally dangerous, don’t get close or it will kill you. Jump onto the other side, go pass the corridor with more filthy worms, jump onto the box and move the lever. Go through the open door and jump to the other side. After a while, you will arrive at a barricaded door and the passage in front of you will shut closed. Approach the plank and pull it out. Crouch and got through the passage you created – after a few more steps, you will fall down.

Right after the fall, pass all the worms and make sure you don’t touch them. At the end of the room, push the door and quickly escape the slimy things. Jump to the other side of the bridge and take the ladder up.

Next, walk on the small plank and go up the stairs again. Cross the bridge and keep going up, until you reach the wheel. Turn it and then run to the right – you only have a moment before the door shuts.

In the next room, approach the hatch underneath the light bulb and open it. A leprechaun will pop up – follow it. Jump on the white line and climb up. On the other side, light up the lantern and go through the door.

Close the door and you’ll see the leaver – move the chest with toilet paper till it’s underneath the lever and jump on the chest. Then sprint to the right – go into the next room. You have to run through it and cross the barred door before the electricity returns. If you can’t make it, use the drawers and the hatch to get back and try again. If you succeed, you will reach a room with many doors. Bypass it and you’ll reach a room with a huge window.

New game mechanics is introduced here – the eye generates light and traces the protagonist. The way is pretty simple here – when the eye is looking as far right as possible, hide behind the bed and proceed further when it’s safe. Remember to not let they eye catch you, or you’ll have to repeat a portion of the game.

On the chest, you will find another torch to light. Climb to the very top and go right to the next room.

After a moment, the room will be invaded by a weird creature. Quickly hide underneath the bed. Wait until the creature moves left and go to the end of the room. Climb the chests, jump on the shelves and enter the vent shaft. You managed to escape the creature… for now.

Go through it. When you get to the other side, the protagonist will get a hunger stomachache. Go right – the creature will throw some food your way. Eat it. This will replenish your strength and will allow you to continue the journey. Jump on the chests and go further, go pass the subsequent locations until you reach electric bars.

Jump on the boxes and climb until you reach another lantern. Approach the edge and jump onto the boxes when they tilt to your side. Then, climb up using the chain and jump onto the platform.

Use the bars and protruding edges to climb up. Grab the switch and pull it down. Now go to the lever and pull it to the right. When the boxes on chain are next to the platform, pull the lever left, and quickly jump onto the boxes. You need the right momentum to do this.

When you reach the other end of the room, use the chain to climb up and enter the room with file drawers. Pull the lowest drawer out climb it, and pull out another. Repeat that until you’re able to jump from the top and pull down the switch to turn electricity off. Run through the door on the left and light up another lantern.

Push the weight down, jump onto the line and go down. Avoid the falling worms – don’t touch them, remember. Go through the bars on the right. There’s the eye again, with its ominous beam of light.

When it’s safe, run towards the crates in the middle. A cart will roll towards them – walk alongside it to stay in the shadow. Wait until the eye’s not looking and go through the door.

Go on the footbridge but be careful – it will begin to split. Sprint ahead and jump to the other side. Then quickly jump on the crate and enter the platform. Go through the door into a dark room and follow the leprechauns. This will be the conclusion of this stage of the game and unlock the achievement The Prison.

Take the stairs up right away; use the chest to get inside. You will enter the room of the creature that will soon be relentlessly tailing you. Get onto the toilet, then the sink and then climb the cabinet. Jump onto the table with the key – drop the key onto the floor and jump down.

Approach the slide wall on the right and push. Take the key, go towards the lock and throw it (Six can’t jump while holding an item). Go with the key towards the lock and open it.

Take the teaddybear and approach the button with it. Hold the “throw” key for a while, and throw the bear at the button to call the elevator. Grab the teddy again and repeat this trick inside the elevator so it takes you down.

Exit and run to the left. Six will have another spasm of hunger. Continue left till you reach a peace of raw meat in the cage – eat it… and you’ll be trapped.

While in the cage, move sideways to break free. Then, approach the cage with the creature inside, and pull it underneath the level. Get on the cage and pull the lever. Run towards the door. Climb up and light up the candles next to the bathtub. Then, squeeze through the passage.

You will reach the location with the blind creature. Here’s how you need to proceed:

  • Crouch and make a couple steps forward;
  • Wait till the creature starts investigating the source of the sound and turns further right;
  • Get onto the cloth right next to you and climb up the cage;
  • Go right, wait till the creature is far away on the left, and quickly run through the crack in the wall.

In the new area, pick up the lever from the floor and place it in the slot on the beam. Unfortunately, the leverage is noisy, so the creature will be alarmed. When the hatch is barely enough open to squeeze in, run to it ASAP – otherwise the creature will catch you. Jump inside – you should be able to get away just in time.

After falling from a considerable height, you’ll find yourself in the sewers. Go right and light up the torch. Then use the case to enter the shaft. You’ll make it to a location with piles of shoes. Make your way through and be careful – something will start chasing you soon!

Quickly get to the protruding suitcase. When amidst the shoes, a mysterious creature will start chasing after you, so try to get onto subsequent suitcases as quickly as you can. The protagonist moves through the shoes quite ponderously, so try jumping as far as possible from the suitcases to cover more distance.

Eventually, you’ll manage to exit this bizarre room. Go further right, and soon, the long-armed creature will be after you again. You have to RUN. Run straight ahead, slide under the valve and hide in the box in the elevator. Wait until you get to another part of the facility and follow the creature, which will start running after some leprechauns.

Move the box with toys to the left and approach the teddy bear – the plank in the floor will tilt. Go down the plank and proceed right – you will reach a sort of a ladder. Go up and then take the passage on the right. Unfortunately, the being doesn’t want to leave the place. Go back a bit and pick a teddy bear. Throw it to the left, hence alarming the creature.

When it goes away to see what’s going on, use the drawers to get up and the move the box on the top to reveal another passage. Go down this passage and you’ll reach the room with a furnace.

Approach the door and push them – this will cause the clocks to frequently strike. Use this to your advantage – a striking clock stuns the creature, naturalizing it for a few seconds. When the clocks strike a full hour, go right and move towards the shoes. Pick one up, wait for another clock and throw the shoe at the button on the wall.

Then run as quick as you can and get through the door left ajar. This will get you into the library. Go right and climb the bookshelves as high as possible. Light up the candle; jump onto the piano and to the other side. Use the books to climb. The creature will reappear

Follow the carpet and use books to climb. Light up the candle and approach the teddy bear and some toys. Go past them and be careful not to knock them off. Proceed further this way, until you reach shelves. Jump down and quickly use the books on the left get to the next location through the crack in the wall.

Approach the TV, turn it on and pick the lever up. Wait until the creature enters the room, let it pass (you can hide behind the table, as shown above, and look for the lever slot among the bookshelves.

On your way, you will find a candle that can be lit. Activate the lever – this will let you haul the piano up a little. Jump onto the piano and to the other side. You’ll reach a new location. Approach the cart and push it (watch out for the steam – it’s deadly) until it’s as close to the door as possible. Then jump onto the cart and leap for the door handle.

Keep going right until you reach the sewers. At some point the hands of a hostile creature will appear and try to grab you. Wait until the hand on the right is feeling the pipes a bit higher, crouch and sneak through.

Run away from the creature until you run into a dead end. The hands will be looking for you all around the place – get onto the crates in the corner, wait for the right moment, jump down and pull out a chunk of metal that’s supporting the door which will lower a bit. Pull again, and you’ll cut the creature’s hands.

When you’ll wake up in an air duct, crouch and head right. Climb the ladder and grab one of the moving hooks. You’ll be brought to a place with strange cocoons. A few steps later, your character will once again begin to feel hungry.

Head right and you will hear the sound of a closing mouse trap. Proceed to the right, where you’ll find a trapped rat. Come closer… and let the heroin eat it.

Head further right, climb on top of the chest, then on the container and push aside the chest lid to create a passage. Enter the next room – here you’ll have to move a cart to a window, so you can reach it. Going through the window, you’ll reach the pantry. Proceed, and eventually you’ll find yourself in the kitchen belonging to the next creature – the cook.

You’ll have to make your way through the kitchen without getting caught – here’s how to do it:

  1. As soon as you enter, hide in the locker near the entrance;
  2. Wait for the cook to throw the meat into the pot, and use that moment to cover a good distance, hiding in the recess under a large commode, next to the ovens;
  3. Proceed to the next location and circle around the table, going past the open oven;
  4. Crawl under the small table and wait for the cook to leave.
  5. Head towards the table and hide behind one of its legs to avoid detection – see the picture for reference;
  6. Wait for a chance to go upstairs, and use the drawers to climb the cabinet. Light the lantern and jump on the wooden scaffolding.

Now, you’ll have to face a rather irritating fragment – you’ll have to use the planks to cover a large distance, until you reach a large number of locked cages. Climb them to reach a hatch, and hide inside it.

Climb on the toilet, and then on a shelf to light the candle. Exit the room and go left untill you reach the bedroom. Sneak past the sleeping cook and climb on the shelf with the key. Hang on the key and start swinging to pull it down. Unfortunately, the sound will wake the cook, so quickly hide under the bed to avoid detection.

Once the grotesque character leaves the room, pick up the key and head right. Proceed to the elevator – pull the lever and take the elevator down. You’ll be back in the kitchen – hold onto the key and quickly hide under the long table. Once the cook turns left, you can proceeed to the right untill you find a door with a padlock. Use the key to open them and quickly hide inside.

Quickly run under the table and proceed to the room with the meat grinder. For the time being, enter the small elevator located on the wall and take it up. Drop a hunk of meat from the cabinet and place it on the hatch. Then, climb on top of the cabinet, jump on the hook and grab the second hunk of meat. Same as previously, place the meat in the recess on the floor. Now, proceed to the next room through a gap in the wall and light the lantern.

Take the elevator down and jump on the lever. This will open the hatch and result in the pieces of meat landing on the grinder. Turn the lever and you will make some sausages – jump on them, swing and proceed to the shaft.

Proceed through the ventilation shaft until you’ve reached the cold store. Go across the room, until you’ve reached the gate with a lever. Jump on the lever… and quickly run to the left, as your old pal the cook will come out of the elevator door. Enter a box in the cold store and wait for the cook to take the cheese. Once he’s far enough, crouch and head for the elevator. Take the elevator up and hide in a recess in the wall.

After a brief moment, the cook will come and open a way for you. Follow him and hide under the table near the entrance. Wait for the cook to focus on the meat and run for the tables at the wall. Now, wait for a good opportunity to proceed, climb the table and go through the open window.

Pick up the can from the floor and throw it at the button. This will draw the cook’s attention – run quickly to the table where he prepared the meat and grab the key. Take the key to the elevator and go down. Use the key on the padlock to the right, enter the room, and hide in a container.

This time, the room will contain a pair of cooks, currently busy washing the dishes. You’ll have to cross the room by hiding under subsequent table and cabinets. The task is not very complicated, and if you’re detected try to quickly hide. Your enemies are not very active, and they won’t bother searching for you for a long time.

Eventually, you’ll reach a room with a lever on the wall. Turn it, activating the line of hooks that will start to move under the ceiling. Now, you’ll have to return to the room with the cooks and sneak all the way back to the table with the pile of dishes. Wait for an opportunity when the cooks are busy and climb to the top of the pile.

Jump on a hook and you’ll be taken to a shelf with another lantern (assuming you’ve turned the hooks to move left). Return to the lever and turn it to the right. Once again use the dishes to catch a hook that will take your character to the right.

One of the cooks will try to grab you standing on a platform – before that, drop down onto the dishes. You’ll have to escape from another creature, coming from behind you. Run ahead, slide under the table and jump on the crates. From there grab a hook, which will take you to a pipe (Beware! It’s very easy to fall!), proceed along the pipe and the chapter will be completed.

Run along the long pipe, then climb the large ladder. At the end you’ll see… the light and feel a breath of freedom! Jump on the chain and prepare for a long climb. Use the pipe to get to the shaft, and you’re character will once again find herself in the shafts. Unfortunately, there’s some fighting left before you’re able to win your freedom.

Once back in the shafts, pull back a plank and enter the tunnel. Proceed along it and climb the wooden notches, going past a new batch of the ship’s guests. Enter the large room and jump from the roof to subsequent lanterns. Enter through the gap in the door and you’ll find yourself in the dining hall.

For this section of the game you’ll have to be extra cautious. Most of the guests will attack your character, attempting to eat her. That’s why when crossing the locations here always be ready to dash away from danger. A good method is to employ a combination of sprinting and long jumps to cover the distance quickly.

Get past the creature gorging with meat and slip through a crevice. One of the guests will drop to the ground and begin to chase after you. Get away from him, because he’s hungry – run across the room and jump for the last dash, getting yourself to safety. Phew… the creature is stuck in the passage, and you’ll be safe for a moment.

Once the creature is stuck, jump on the chair, then the table, and use the dishes to climp further. Jump on the lantern, swing on it and jump to proceed. Go past a group of visitors and approach the end of the long table. On your right there will be a stool, blocking your way – move it and proceed through the gap.

Light the lantern, then lift the dwarf and squeeze it. Return to the large table, jump on the chair and then the table. You’ll have to navigate the space between the creatures without getting caught. Use the aformentioned technique (sprint + jumps) to move too fast for the quests to react. At the end of the table, climb a crate and use it to jump on a ladder.

Go up, jump on the chandelier and further, on the balcony. Jump on the bench and through the railing. Sprint to the left avoiding the beasts. Jump on the plank, and from there on the lantern. Swing on it and jump to get to the other side.

You’ll be back at the dining hall. Proceed to the left… and once again one of the guests will give chase. Sprint to the right and through the gap. The creature will be stuck – jump on the chair and across the back of the creature, back to the other side. Run to the left and make a last second slide into another gap to get away.

Slide under the bars. A moment later you’ll hear the elevator coming. Escape through the corridor until you reach the toilet. Hide under the washbasin, beside the toilet paper. Wait for the cook to go away and pick up a can from the floor. Throw it at the mirror and climb. Use the pipes to get to the cabinet, jump down.

Enter the elevator and go up. Light the torch in the corridor and head right. Now it’s time for some excitement – you’ll have to escape from a whole bunch of hungry creatures. Keep sprinting and don’t look behind, use slides and jumps. In case you’re caught, the checkpoint is right at the beginning of the sequence, so no worries.

Don’t let yourself be blocked on any object; eventually you’ll reach a room with the table – you’re close to safety. When it will seem like it’s the end of the road, jump on the lantern and use it to get away from the creatures.

Go through the gap in the wall, and the protagonist will once again be assaulted by her hunger. Proceed, and you’ll stumble upon a dwarf with meat. Unfortunately, your character will choose the former to satisfy her hunger. Jump on the crate and go through the window. Climb the ladder, pick up the can and throw it at the elevator button. Use the elevator to finish this chapter.

Go to the right and upstairs. Go through the open door and to the room where a woman sings. She’s extremely dangerous – one look at your character and you’ll die. Avoid running and jumping to remain hidden.

Sneak behind her back and you’ll reach the bedroom. Climb the table and drop the vase on the floor – there’s a key inside. Pick it up, and head for the locked door on the lower floor. Open them, enter the room, and take a few steps to the right – The Lady will appear. Light the lighter and sprint to the right, then slide through the gap in the wall.

You’re safe. Proceed and you’ll find yourself in the attic with some mannequins. Don’t stop here, go on and you’ll find a plank, which you must pull back to reach another interesting location. Pick up the mirror from the cabinet – it’s your weapon to defeat the woman.

Return with the mirror to the room with the mannequins. Run to the center of the bright circle of light and wait for The Lady to appear. Place your character with mirror so that the woman will have a taste of her own deadly gaze. After a moment, the woman will disappear and the light will move to another place. Once again stand in the middle and position yourself to reflect The Lady’s gaze. You’ll have to repeat this procedure several times. With time the woman will begin using various tricks, such as circling around the light to confuse you, but the basic method of this “battle” remanins the same.
