Nintendo announced its will launch worldwide in March 2017. The news comes via the company’s latest financial results.
“For our dedicated video game platform business, Nintendo is currently developing a gaming platform codenamed “NX” with a brand-new concept,” the company explained in its report. “NX will be launched in March 2017 globally.” No further specifics relating to the NX were discussed in the report. Nintendo has since confirmed that the Nintendo NX will not be appearing at this year’s E3 and will instead be unveiled later this year.
Rumours and speculation around the nature of Nintendo’s mysterious NX console have been swirling for over 12 months, since the company first revealed the details of its new, next-generation hardware concept back in March 2015.
In December last year Nintendo president and CEO Tatsumi Kimishima reiterated that the company was “not building the next version of Wii or Wii U” and that the device will be something “unique and different.”
