Watch Dogs 2’s Multiplayer Is Broken at Launch

Watch Dogs 2 may now be out in the wild (except for PC owners), but that doesn’t mean the whole game is working as it should. Its seamless multiplayer, in which other players can appear in your game, and you in theirs, is currently deactivated.

In a statement, publisher Ubisoft said it pulled the plug on the feature as it was causing the game “to lag and crash periodically.” The publisher went on to say, “In order to eliminate that issue at launch and for players to enjoy a smooth game play experience, we have decided to wait to launch the seamless multiplayer feature so it would not impact the core gameplay experience.

“Players can fully enjoy the entire single-player experience without any concerns. Additionally, co-op is still fully functional by inviting friends through the game menu. However, the Bounty-Hunter mode and other activities that would occur with other outside players who enter your game will be unavailable until the issue is resolved.”

We at GameSpot have encountered the above problems ourselves. Critic Peter Brown said in his review in progress, “We only experienced multiplayer-related frame rate issues a few times, [but] it was relentless when it occurred–rebooting the game was the only cure.”
